Jeff: Thanks for your question.  I've been conducting running training programs since 1976 and have encountered 3 significant recessions.  During each downturn, the interest in our training programs increased.  That has certainly been the case this year.  We have added about 15 new programs since the recession started and have new interest every month.  Attendance is also up in clinics that I've monitored.
 
Every week, dozens of runners tell me how running is the simplest form of exercise that delivers the best results: attitude boost, personal enhancement and stress release.  Runners don't have to pay for club or facility fees, exotic clothing or equipment. 
 
The single greatest benefit of running that is noted daily is the rebounding of the spirit that occurs after most runs, for most runners.  It's priceless!
