When running slightly faster than our realistic goal pace, muscle cells and tendons tend to break down from a greater workload. If the stress is not too much more than before, it will stimulate the body to make internal improvements. You see, our bodies are programmed to rebuild stronger than before when slightly overwhelmed. But there must be gentle and regular stress, followed by significant rest to promote this regeneration.
