The key to running until you’re 100 or so, is to maintain good health and nutrition, stay within your capabilities, and exercise regularly enough to maintain the adaptations you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Age appropriate training allows you to enjoy running more while reducing aches and pains.

Every year I communicate with hundreds who put on their first running shoes past the age of 60. One of the fastest growing age groups in many parts of the running world is the 80+ division. I’ve met and heard of several runners in their 90’s who still glow from each run – every other day or so. Running is one of the few recreational activities that can often be enjoyed into advanced ages. It is obvious to me that while we need to be more conservative as the years go by, we benefit from, and are penalized by, the same principles of training that apply to 20 year olds.
