Running does not predispose joints to arthritis. Dan Wnorowski, MD, has written a paper which reviews research on the effects of running and joint health. He believes that the “majority of the relevant literature during the past decade” on this topic finds little or no basis that running increases arthritis risk. Wnorowski goes on to say that a recent MRI study indicates that the prevalence of knee meniscus abnormalities in asymptomatic marathon runners is no different than sedentary controls.
